Overheating of the PC is a common problem amongst many PC users. Desktop computers and laptops have fans. Fans cool the computer like how fans cool the engine of a vehicle. Yet, overheating happens. Somehow the air circulation might not wash away excessive heat.

There are some basic causes of overheating. When there is some restriction to the movement of the fan in a computer, the computer can get overheated. A desktop PC may not have the facility of being in air conditioned rooms like servers. Servers are placed in air conditioned rooms. The cool air from these rooms is drawn by the fan in the server.

A computer can also overheat because of a faulty fan system. The fan might have been damaged. A damaged fan is often hard to detect. Unless the user opens the computer and sees, there is no way of knowing.

Overheating can be caused by certain processors. These processors do not have the ability to control heat. There could also be cases when the processor is overloaded with a lot of requests to accomplish at a single point of time. For example, you could be playing online high-definition video games, and at the same time downloading movies. In this situation, the processor will definitely increase its temperature.

To prevent overheating, place the computer is a place where there is adequate air circulation. Do not let the vents from where the fans suck in air be obstructed. Use a vacuum cleaner to dust the internals of the computer regularly.
