Deep Web vs. Dark Web

The Internet is vast than what we thought of it. It is comprised of Billions of webpages, millions of databases and tons and tons of servers.

But not all of them are visible and available publically.

Most of them are hidden and are not indexed by search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo. All these hidden content of the Internet is referred to as Hidden Internet or Hidden Web.

When we talk about the hidden contents of the Internet, two most used terms are The Deep Web and Dark web. Technically both are different from each other but we see them as similar to one another. This is what we have discussed below in brief.

What is Deep Web?

Web pages and websites that are not indexed by the major search engines like Google, Yahoo or Bing combines and makes the Deep Web.

This means that you need to directly access the URL of these websites and web pages instead of searching them on Google.

So, in short, we can conclude that Deep Web is a subset of the Internet that can’t be searched by web engines because the Internet is too vast and it is difficult for them to cover each and every Web page and Website. It is the left out content and information on the Internet.  For better understanding, checkout depth guide on the deep web.

What is Dark Web?

The Dark Web also known as the Darknet is that part of Deep Web which can’t be accessed directly. Instead, such websites require some special tools so that you can access them, e.g. some specific proxy software or authorization to get access to that content.

The Dark Web technically is on the top of the networks like Freenet, I2P, or Tor.

You need to have the Tor browser to have access to such hidden websites. Use of these websites is illegal in majority of the countries.

They basically comprise of the child pornography, various deals like buying and selling of drugs, weapons, gambling, guns, etc. you can also hire hitmen or some other private detectives etc.

The most popular and best among all software is the Onion browser also referred to as the TOR Browser.

Dark Web vs. Deep Web: Conclusion

Dark Web and Deep Web are two different terms but are mistakenly referred to as the same.

Deep Web can be directly visited using the URLs of the websites whereas you require some special software like TOR Browser to access the websites of Dark Web.

The websites that come under the category of Deep Web or Dark Web, both, are not indexed by search engines.

Dark Web is technically a subset of the Deep Web. Every website of Dark Web comes under Deep Web but not every site of Deep Web comes under Dark Web.
